Batteries

Due to their increasing performance capacity, batteries and rechargeable batteries are gaining ever more diverse technical applications. Natural graphite is added to alkali-manganese, nickel-cadmium and zinc-carbon cells in batteries for oxidation-stable conductivity. This requires graphite with a purity of around 99.99 percent. Graphite also plays an important role in lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries: Its layered crystal structure ensures that lithium ions are deposited in the anode and stored there.
