Thanks to its good lubrication properties, graphite modulates the braking effect of friction linings, enabling comfortable braking and minimizing noise. In addition, its ability as a good heat conductor makes graphite an important material in the friction industry, particularly for the production of brake and clutch linings: In brake linings, various components such as metals, mineral fibres, sulphides and resins must be mixed homogeneously. Friction creates a graphite film on the coating. Rough petroleum coke removes the film, resulting in a braking effect. Graphite supports heat dissipation after the kinetic energy has been converted into thermal energy and it is therefore indispensable for the automotive and railway industries.
