Natural flake graphite can be used universally and, depending on the flake size and carbon content, it is suitable for a wide variety of applications. Expandable graphite can be produced from large graphite flakes, and the flakes are also a component of refractory moulds, seals and friction linings. Small flake graphite, on the other hand, is used as a lubricant or for carburizing steel and foundry products.
